The first section of my book is entitled: My Story Begins. It exhaustively walks you through the first 5-6 years of my depressive illness. This post is an accompaniment resource for those five chapters.

Songs for Reflection

“The songs in this section and in future chapters will be formatted this way: they list the artist from my playlist who sang the song which was meaningful to me in depression (not necessarily the artist who wrote it) followed by the song(s). I am not necessarily endorsing any of these artists nor all their theology in the songs. But these songs helped me live with my depression in a better way by offering me spiritual insights I could grasp. I hope that these will work as spiritual tools for you and be an added spiritual blessing to you.”

(End of Chapter Three notation)

To clarify, at the end of each chapter, I list music that helped me process what was happening to me and how I could see it from a spiritual perspective. Now, I didn’t say, how I could turn my frown upside down, nor did I say, how I could live positively and victoriously. This was music that helped me live honestly, as I wrestled with the Lord, with His Word, with how I was supposed to live with my broken mind, about new paradigms that God was just whetting my appetite for, and so on.

I have created YouTube playlists for every chapter except Chapter 2, as there is no audio or video link for the song, “Crooked Road.” Here are those playlists to help give you perspective as you read my book.

Chapter One: Implosion

This is the only song mentioned in Chapter 1.

Chapter Two: The Roller Coaster

This is the only song mentioned in Chapter 2.

Chapter Three: Creating the Formula

There are 10 songs on the playlist for Chapter Three.

Chapter Four: The Formula Stops Working

There are 14 songs (15 links) on the playlist for Chapter Four.

Chapter Five: Spiritual Life and Depression

There are 13 songs (14 links) on the playlist for Chapter 5.
